In Partnership with the Community

The Seton Committee model integrates communities and their facilities into the operation of the recreation centre and its facilities, resulting in a comprehensive, sustainable model that provides all the recreational and wellness facilities residents require. This model got its beginnings in 2003 at The TRICO Centre (formerly Family Leisure Centre), which, like many major recreational centres at the time was forced with either closing its doors or turning itself over to the city to be sustained by the taxpayers.

 

Necessity being the mother of invention, a membership model was conceived that gave Community Associations the opportunity to join the Board of Directors.  Members of these communities who hold a valid community membership receive a significant discount in the purchase of a facility membership. The result was the communities represented on the board growing from 4 to 26, and membership increased from 400 to over 2000.  Over $50,000 per year is put back into the member communities through the increased sale of their community memberships.

 

The Seton Committee strongly believes in this model.  Our vision is a major recreational and wellness centre at Seton, partnered with and governed by the communities it serves.  We believe that this partnership model will not only ensure the sustainability of the facility but also allow the member communities to have direct input into its future.
